MIXomatosis

22nd July 10

Yesterday we revisited Dub:Rek to re-record some vocals and finish the mixing. I realised that it’s been nearly 2 years since our last recordings, which is ages! We made a conscious decision to keep the recordings down to stuff we can play live and we’re really happy with the results!

I’ve got to knock up a quick CD cover and then we’ll stick them up online somewhere so you can download them for free.

It’s just started hoying it down outside. Proper torrential rain. With thunder too. Call me strange but I kind of like walking in the rain listening to music. I have to walk to the post office later to pick up a parcel, I’m hoping that it’s my japanese import of Mineral’s remastered collection. This would make the day a good day.

I for one, welcome our octopus overlords!

11th July 10

This weekend we spent a fair bit of time in the recording studio at Dub:Rek doing some new songs. The saturday was stupidly hot and at one point i felt physically sick from the heat … a matter probably not helped by 2 hours of football in the baking sun beforehand, or the fact that my northern constitution does not cope well with non-raining weather.

Anyhoo, we have 3 shiny new songs on the way. I’m listening to the first mix as i type and they sound pretty big! The songs in question are: Paint Your Canvas, Tales of Teeth & Claws, Should Have Sent A Poet .. not 100% sure what the plan is for these, toying with the idea of recording another 4/5 and releasing a mini-album. We’ll definitely put a couple up online when we’re happy with the mixes though, and hopefully get a video or two done at some point in the next decade or two.

Just finished watching the World Cup final and I have to say that I really enjoyed this tournament. It really annoys me that so many people are bitching and moaning about how rubbish it’s been. I’ve seen all but 3/4 of the games and i’ve only seen a couple that were a bit dull (Brazil v Portugal, to name one). I think quite often people seem to be of the opinion that a game has to have goals to be a decent game. Obviously they help, but it’s not always the case.

If nothing else, World Cup 2010 will be remembered for this little guy…

Legend.

The post that refused to shake Parreira’s hand

24th June 10

Well, after a slow start the world cup’s turning out to be pretty exciting! After supporting 3 perennial underachievers/generally rubbish teams (Newcastle, Scotland, England) all my life, it’s nice to see some others cocking up for a change (I’m looking at you France & Italy!)

A week and a bit to go til recording. Quite excited! Considering having a backing track of vuvezelas and some soundbytes of Mark Lawrenson laughing off-mic.

We have revisited 2 previously finished songs and re-worked them. Partially because there were a couple of bits we weren’t totally happy with, but mostly because we couldn’t remember them. Look out for ‘Tales of Teeth & Claws’ and ‘Me and the Mountain’.

…and, we’ve been discussing video plans again! More on these over the coming weeks!

Planz in motion

7th June 10

recording booked. new songs on the way. planz in motion. hooray.

in other news, the world cup starts on friday. hooray! i’ve booked the day off work to watch the opening ceremony because i’m a massive geek, and also because it’s a great excuse to not go into work.

also, my mum just phoned me from tatooine! seriously. my folks are on holiday in tunisia and she phoned me just to tell me she was at the skywalker residence … how fucking cool is that?!

the answer is ‘very’

An update (of sorts)

1st June 10

Ok, so it’s been pretty quiet of late due to rather trivial aspects of life taking priority, but we’re back in the practice room now and writing some new songs … because that’s easier than trying to remember the old ones.

We have a gig! It’s on Sunday 4th July at The Maze in Nottingham. More details on that when we get them, but i can tell you that if you come along then you’ll be one of the first to witness the lovely Minoans (a new project by Mr Crabb of DDF fame) in action.
